Meet Mari

To the rest of the family, Mari is a well-loved teal octopus plush. To Sebbi, Mari is completely real: a silent best friend who plays, explores and gets him through big moments. It is a secret world only the two of them share.

Two stories at once

Every episode has a simple kid story on top and a quiet parent story underneath. Co-parenting, rebuilding, love after loss. It is never spelled out, but grown-ups will feel it.

Carter tells it

Carter the blue jay narrates from his perch in the park, keeping an eye on the whole family.

Sebbi's big moments

In every episode Sebbi sees the day his own exaggerated way. A trip to the grocery store becomes an ocean voyage. A bath becomes a storm at sea.

Meet the family

Two families, one big noisy, loving house in Toronto, right across the street from Trinity Bellwoods Park. Tap anyone to get to know them.

Jin

Mid-30s, half Vietnamese and half Italian. Works in music and trains before sunrise. Strict, but always gentle.

Mom

Amina

Mid-30s, Jamaican and Lebanese. Runs a wellness clinic, loves yoga and Pilates, and there is usually something in the oven.

Age 8

Zahara "Zippy"

Bold, curious and always asking why. Questions every rule and never goes anywhere without her skateboard.

Age 6

Jay "Egghead"

Jin's son. A thinker with big questions and even bigger theories about how everything works.

Sebbi "Peanut"

Little body, enormous imagination. Where Sebbi goes, an adventure follows.

Gentle pacing

Many kids' shows cut every second or two. We slow it down, with average shot lengths tuned to each age group:

Colour scheme

Mari's House uses a soft, muted, warm colour palette on purpose. Young children's eyes, brains and nervous systems are still developing, and very bright, high-contrast, fast-changing visuals tend to grab their attention automatically and rev them up. That can tip into overstimulation, making it harder to settle down, focus or manage big feelings. Gentler, warmer tones are easier to take in, so little ones can tune in to faces, feelings and the story itself. It also makes for calmer watching together, especially before bed.
